Chlorophyll – The Health Benefits Chlorophyll is the molecule that absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to synthesize carbohydrates from CO2 and water by a process known as photosynthesis; the basis for sustaining life in all plants. Chlorophyll is the green coloration in leaves. Chloro comes from the Greek word chloros, which means yellowish green because it gave plants their green color or pigmentation. Chlorophyll to plants is like blood to humans. It is important in many plant processes such as growth and respiration. Since animals and humans obtain their food supply by eating plants, photosynthesis can be said to be the source of our life processes, too.
